I'm in his hands...

A good friend died this week - a stroke and gone. I thank God for him and pray for his family.

Another good friend is suffering physically, he can't quit the booze, he admitted same to me recently.

I want so much to do something, it's a better alternative than running - but what can I do? I seek God, I bring people before God, and God will do his work, in me as to what I should or shouldn't do, and with others.

the carpenter picks up the saw
and walks toward me again.
i shudder and gasp, “why?
why is he torturing me like this?”
but then, after the blade
has done its work, i realize that
in the hands of a master carpenter,
no piece of wood is safe
from becoming a masterpiece.

Steven James

I'm off to SARoots this weekend. We will be attentive to God, his creation, his people, his word for us.

Unbelievable....

Caught Herbie Hancock at the New Opera Centre last night, part of Toronto Jazz Festival. Chris Potter subbing on sax. Accoustic - extraordinaire. Music - sublime.

Amazing - the capacity of the soul to create and respond and interact. Our Mayor in the festival guide says: "the compelling power of music can lift our spirits to unprecedented heights, refine our personalities, strengthen our inner being, connect us with our higher calling, and illuminate our souls - sounds like worship to me - and God was all over the concert for me.

Steven James describes the splendour of a fish leaping out of the water - the capacity, the beauty of that transitory tasting of the beyond. These boys last night (Hancock is a fresh, vital 67 year old) were doing that musically last night. I can't begin to describe, but I know it.

We all are made for that - made for a lot of other stuff as well - but God wants to write those new songs, and sing a song through us. Brilliant.
Spirit divine, sing through us, sometimes laments, sometimes exuberant praise, sometimes off-key, whatever, but your song through your vessels for you glory.

Crux - the crucial, but don't box it...

i know a carpenter who
built a kingdom by letting
himself get nailed to the
wooden beams of my soul.
and through the ages and through the questions
no storm has ever knocked it down.
knocked him down.
huh. who knew that blood would be
such a strong and time-resistant adhesive?

Stephen James "Sailing between the Stars"

I've found a new poet/storyteller, nice gift. Am being attentive to God's creation in these long days of summer. God is good, but refuses to be put in a box. This is good. Praise Him.

Back in the saddle again....

Technology is a help. Technology is a hindrance. Technology is both.

In formatting to the new google/blogger I messed some things up and then couldn't make the password work and then....

I'm not the techno guy. I will not let technology make me feel inferior.

I feel better already. The master designer is in control, he continues to weave colour, and texture for his glory.

Lord of science, Lord of art, God of map and graph and chart,
Lord of physics and research, Word of Bible, faith of church.
Lord of sequence and design, all the world of truth is thine.

Back in the saddle, and perhaps we'll hook this up to face book.

grace.....
